What is a nurse assistant program?

A nurse assistant program is a training program that prepares individuals to work as certified nursing assistants (CNA’s) in healthcare facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.

What are the prerequisites for a nurse assistant program?

The prerequisite for a nurse assistant program may vary depending on the program and the state. Here at Genevieve Training Center (GTC), You must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED or pass the GTC assessment tool, pass a criminal background check, Immunization (MMR, Tdap, Vericella and hepatitis) and valid state ID.

What topics are covered in a nurse assistant program?

GTC's nurse assistant program covers topics such as basic nursing skills, patient care, anatomy and physiology, infection control, communication skills, legal and ethical issues in healthcare and on-site practical skill experience.

How long does our nurse assistant program take to complete?

The length of a nurse assistant program varies depending on the program and the state. Most programs can be completed in 4-12 weeks, with some programs offering evening or weekend classes to accommodate working students.  Here at GTC, the nurse assistant program is 6 weeks in length for both days and evenings. Our day courses are held Monday through Wednesday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.  Our evening courses are Monday through Friday from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. 

What are the career prospects for graduates of a nurse assistant program?

Graduates of a nurse assistant program can work as certified nursing assistants (CNAs), in healthcare facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. These positions are in high demand, and job growth in this field is projected to be faster than average.

What is the certification process for nurse assistants? 

After successfully completing the GTC program, graduates must pass a state competency examination to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA).  The exam includes a written/oral portion and a skills demonstration, and passing the exam is required to obtain a CNA certification.  If you have a high school diploma or GED the state competency examination is not required for certification.

Are there any continuing education requirements for nurse assistants?

Yes, there are continuing education requirements for nurse assistants. The specific requirements vary by state, but most states require nurse assistants to complete a certain number of hours of continuing education every year to maintain their certification.

What is the cost of tuition? 

Tuition is $2,680, to be paid in full prior to the first week of the program with a signed enrollment agreement. Payment plans are also available upon request.
